The update history information for version 16.16 and earlier also applies to Office 2016 for Mac, which is also a version of Office for Mac that’s available as a one-time purchase. Older versions up to and including 16.16 can be activated with an Office 2016 for Mac volume license.
' You can't disable it and if you remove it from start up it still loads up anyway. All you can do is open task manager and end the process for MSOSYNC.EXE, pretty lame I know, but there's no way of disabling it and this info is coming from the office365 forum!' You can disable the Microsoft Office Upload Center easily in the registry- but this is the only way. Microsoft went out of their way to stop people from doing this in the GUI, and even MSCONFIG won't work. Here's the registry fix (only tested on Windows 7 + Office 2010. See other answers for more recent versions of Windows/Office): Locate: HKEYCURRENTUSER Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Run and delete the OfficeSyncProcess entry that points to the current location of MSOSYNC.EXE. Microsoft's arrogance on this whole issue is astonishing: are turning to forums in frustration to turn off this feature.
People want to disable it, so do, and, and even. It shouldn't be enabled automatically when you simply run SharePoint/SkyDrive once- and if it is, then it should be possible to turn it off without rolling up your sleeves and hacking the registry.
Poor show, Microsoft. This is a terrible MS pushed annoyance, and to make it worse, MS insists that you use it by constantly avoiding previous removal procedures. So here is my attempt to collect and update some (currently) working solutions. The post answers here will probably need to be updated again, in a few months.
These instructions are for disabling Microsoft Office Upload Center on the MS Office 2013 Home & Student Edition on Windows 8.1. Optionally:. Uninstall SharePoint. Uninstall SkyDrive. Kill the processes: a) Stop the system service 'Microsoft Office Service'. @Betaminos: This is not an overkill at all, as every time any Office related MS updates have been run, I have to pretty much go through the same sequence again.
And if SkyDrive require MSOSync or vice versa, that would be a bug issue to post at MS forums. I'm sure they will be very helpful there! Also notice I wrote optionally on the SkyDrive uninstall item. (Because if you do use SkyDrive, it will want to 'help' you also synchronize your office stuff, and then BAM! We're back to step again.) – Jul 7 '14 at 11:20.
Posted: Today at 1:00 PM by tnielsen Thanks How are you guys disabling this for new computers that have never had office on them? The plist isn't there so it won't write. Since the apps are sandbox, the plist never shows up. I'm thinking I'm missing something. Whether or not the plist is present doesn't prevent the defaults write command from taking place.
For the main commands to nix the splash screen, this is set once on a machine-level before the applications are launched and is immediate. The autoupdate disable has to be done in the user, but could be written into the User Template folder to take effect for each user when they first login. Existing users would need the command run for each account. I found today as of the 9.93 release (maybe before?) that there is a new built-in Managed Preferences template already for 'Microsoft Office Auto Update' which has the WhenToCheck and HowToCheck options pre-built, and supports custom settings (i.e.
ChannelName = 'External'). I'm testing a profile now to push some of our advanced users to use the InsiderFast channel with daily checks, and another for 'normal' users (without Admin rights, ideally) to Manual check, External ChannelName, and DisableInsiderCheckbox.
Did you find anything else out about this? I had setup some options for the autoupdate2 using Managed Preferences, but also discovered after the fact that they appear to be deprecated now. Trying to find all of the available options for MAU, as I DO want to enable AutoUpdate (as of MAU 3.6 I think, the process runs as System and doesn't prompt users for Admin credentials to install the updates). Also combing the MacAdmins Slack channel looking for more info; seems that MAU 3.8 is now out and supports automatic download of the updates!
